Third Sector Podcast

I had the opportunity to join Emily Burt and Lucinda Rouse on Third Sector’s podcast to discuss the complexities of working in cause-driven communications, particularly in conflict-affected areas.

As Head of Communications at Women for Women International, my role involved amplifying the voices of women survivors of war, ensuring our messaging remains factual, unbiased, and impactful, all while safeguarding the mental well-being of my team.

During the conversation, I shared insights into managing crisis communications, responding to fast-moving global events, and setting boundaries for mental health. We explored strategies for navigating social media challenges, including monitoring engagement, handling negative comments, and leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT to assess feedback trends. I also highlighted the importance of preparation, from crisis response planning to psychological safety within teams, and the need to balance difficult stories with messages of hope and resilience.

This discussion underscored the emotional demands of humanitarian communications and the necessity of creating support systems to sustain impactful work in this field.
