Women for Women International

As Co-Leader of the Marketing and Communications team at Women for Women International – UK, a charity that supports women survivors of war, I played a key role in driving strategic marketing, communications, and fundraising efforts to achieve ambitious growth and engagement targets. Working alongside the Head of Marketing, I developed and executed integrated strategies that leveraged mainstream and emerging channels to strengthen our brand, increase supporter engagement, and secure vital funding.

A key achievement was driving significant revenue growth, to achieve our Marketing and Communication team’s £605K annual income target. I oversaw high-impact campaigns, including Women’s History Month, World Refugee Week, and the launch of our rebranded Stand With Her regular giving programme. These initiatives focused on new supporter acquisition, donor reactivation, and ongoing engagement, successfully converting one-time donors to regular givers.

Press and ambassador engagement was a core part of my role, securing major media placements—including two features on BBC Woman’s Hour—and amplifying key moments such as the Ukraine war anniversary and the Yazidi genocide remembrance. I supported our influencer and ambassador strategy, leveraging their audiences to enhance visibility and advocacy.

With a strong focus on innovation, I supported my team’s partership with our digital agency to refine a data-driven paid ads strategy (Google, Meta, and a pilot Spotify ad campaign) to boost one-time gifts and expand audience reach. Additionally, I introduced AI-driven fundraising content, increasing efficiency while maintaining quality and impact.

Beyond strategy and execution, I was committed to fostering a positive and collaborative organisational culture, mentoring a high-performing team and ensuring our communications reflected the strength and resilience of the women we support worldwide.

  • Behind every statistic on the refugee crisis is a human being with hopes, fears, and dreams. In an article I wrote for Women for Women International, I explored the personal stories of three courageous women—Shireen, Kateryna, and Fryal—who represent the reality behind global displacement figures.

Today, over 117 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide (source: UNHCR). While this number is staggering, it is individual stories that truly illuminate the human cost of war and conflict.

Each book on this list offers a powerful glimpse into the histories, cultures, and lived experiences of people navigating the realities of war, displacement, and societal change.

By amplifying these voices, I hope to inspire meaningful conversations about the power of literature in bridging cultural divides.
